Odoo Enterprise vs Salesforce CRM vs ERPStack custom solutions

Businesses frequently choose between Odoo’s modular apps, Salesforce’s sales CRM, and building custom portals. While Odoo is open-source, custom apps require licensing. Salesforce delivers sales funnels but charges high monthly seat fees. ERPStack engineers custom solutions that integrate sales and inventory logic with zero seat licensing.

Quick Answer & Verdict

Odoo provides standard modules but is limited by legacy UI templates, and Salesforce charges high user seat fees. An ERPStack custom CRM platform is developed for a one-time fixed price, scales with zero seat costs, and integrates directly with your secure databases.

What the ERPStack column actually is: Next.js and React in TypeScript, PostgreSQL with Drizzle ORM, deployed to Vercel or AWS. No seat licences, no vendor API quota, and 100% of the source code, the PostgreSQL database and the IP transferred to the client under a perpetual licence granted at kickoff.

How to read the competitor columns: Where this table states an annual licence figure it is the same indicative band listed below and on that vendor's /alternatives page, with its basis and collection date stated there; any multi-year total is computed from it rather than quoted separately. Any implementation or customisation figure is ERPStack's own estimate for a mid-market deployment, not a vendor list price — several of the platforms listed below publish no list pricing at all.

Hidden Platform Overheads to Avoid

Odoo App Dependencies

Configuring one Odoo module frequently requires purchasing and testing multiple dependent custom apps.

Salesforce API Limits

High-volume checkout portals hit daily transaction limits, triggering steep usage charges.

Where the incumbent genuinely wins

A comparison that never concedes a point is marketing, not evaluation. These are the cases where buying beats building — read them before the verdict.

Salesforce

Ecosystem and hiring pool. Salesforce has an enormous AppExchange, a mature reporting layer, and an administrator population you can hire from any city. If your bottleneck is sales-process maturity rather than data ownership, Salesforce buys you a working pipeline, forecasting and territory model on day 1 that a custom CRM has to design from scratch.

Odoo Enterprise

Breadth for the money. Odoo Enterprise covers CRM, inventory, accounting, manufacturing and point of sale under a single data model at a genuinely low entry cost, and the core is open-source, so you can read the code and self-host it. If your processes sit close to the Odoo defaults, editing an Odoo module is cheaper than building the equivalent from zero.

Both incumbents

Time to first value. Both reach a usable CRM in days. A custom ERPStack build reaches its first production module in weeks, and that gap is real — it is only worth paying when seat counts, API limits or workflow fit make the rented option worse over 3 years.

When a custom build is the wrong answer

  • A sales team under roughly 10 seats running a textbook pipeline — Salesforce Essentials-class licensing wins on cost.
  • A process that matches Odoo defaults closely enough that configuration beats code.
  • No engineering owner able to review pull requests or approve schema changes after handover.
  • A need for third-party marketplace apps that only exist on AppExchange.

Which Option Should You Choose?

A custom ERPStack CRM portal is the most sustainable choice for high-volume sales teams and customer networks. By avoiding monthly seat costs and API boundaries, your sales team gets a secure platform that scales without platform inflation. Where Salesforce or Odoo Enterprise already fits your process and your seat count is small, buying is the rational answer — this comparison only pays off when seats, API quotas or workflow fit turn against you.

Annual licence benchmarks across every platform we compare

Indicative annual licence bands for the platforms this site maintains a full analysis of. They are ERPStack's own estimates — read off the vendor's pricing page where one exists, and off prospect-supplied quotes where it does not — so the basis and the collection date for each band are printed beneath it. Use them to sanity-check the table above against whatever quote you are holding.

  • Oracle NetSuite$25,000 - $150,000+ / year

ERPStack estimate for 25-250 seats — not an Oracle quote and not a list price. No Oracle-published NetSuite figure was readable on 15 August 2026 (netsuite.com refuses automated requests), so the floor is anchored to the nearest suite that does publish one: Dynamics 365 Business Central at $80-$110 per user per month is about $24,000 a year at 25 seats (microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-365/products/business-central/pricing, read 15 August 2026). Get the base licence, the modules, and the year-2 and year-3 renewal price in writing.

  • SAP S/4HANA$100,000 - $1,000,000+ / year

ERPStack estimate for mid-market and upper-mid-market deployments — not an SAP quote. No SAP-published S/4HANA figure was readable on 15 August 2026 (sap.com refuses automated requests), so this is an order-of-magnitude estimate of annual licence plus maintenance, excluding implementation. What SAP does publish is the arithmetic beside it: extended maintenance for Business Suite 7 costs "a premium of two percentage points on the existing maintenance basis" (news.sap.com, read 15 August 2026). Get licence, maintenance and digital-access documents quoted separately, in writing.

  • Odoo Enterprise$5,000 - $30,000+ / year

Derived from Odoo published per-user Enterprise pricing plus typical implementation-partner fees, at 25-250 seats. Verify current per-user pricing at odoo.com/pricing. Collected July 2026.

  • Salesforce CRM & Commerce$50,000 - $500,000+ / year

Derived from Salesforce published Sales Cloud edition pricing (Professional / Enterprise / Unlimited) at 25-250 seats, plus typical add-on and integration licensing. Verify at salesforce.com/pricing. Collected July 2026.

  • Microsoft Dynamics 365$20,000 - $180,000+ / year

Derived from Microsoft published Dynamics 365 per-user licensing at 25-250 seats, plus typical partner implementation fees. Verify at microsoft.com/dynamics-365/pricing. Collected July 2026.

  • Epicor ERP$30,000 - $200,000+ / year

ERPStack estimate for mid-market manufacturing at 25-250 seats — not an Epicor quote. Epicor publishes no Kinetic price on its own product page: the calls to action there are "Request a Demo" and "Take a Product Tour" (epicor.com/en-us/erp-systems/kinetic, read 15 August 2026). Treat the band as an order-of-magnitude estimate of annual licence plus maintenance, and get the licence, the maintenance uplift and the partner implementation fee quoted separately, in writing.

  • Sage X3$15,000 - $100,000+ / year

ERPStack estimate for mid-market deployments at 25-250 seats — not a Sage quote and not a list price. No Sage-published X3 figure was readable on 15 August 2026: sage.com refuses automated requests, which is why no Sage price is linked here. Treat the band as an order-of-magnitude estimate of annual licence plus maintenance, and get the licence, the renewal uplift and the partner implementation fee quoted separately, in writing.

  • Zoho Creator$3,000 - $25,000+ / year

Derived from Zoho published Creator per-user pricing at 25-250 seats, plus typical implementation effort. Verify at zoho.com/creator/pricing. Collected July 2026.

  • Monday.com Work OS$8,000 - $60,000+ / year

Derived from monday.com published per-seat tier pricing at 25-250 seats, plus typical enterprise add-ons. Verify at monday.com/pricing. Collected July 2026.

  • HubSpot CRM & Ops Hub$15,000 - $120,000+ / year

Derived from HubSpot published Sales Hub and Enterprise tier pricing at 25-250 seats, plus typical onboarding fees. Verify at hubspot.com/pricing. Collected July 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you migrate data from Salesforce to a custom CRM?

Yes. We write extraction scripts against the Salesforce REST API to move accounts, contacts, opportunities and activity history into PostgreSQL, then reconcile record counts field by field before cutover. Migration runs in the 2 weeks of schema audit at the front of the project, and the Salesforce org stays live and authoritative until the ERPStack portal passes reconciliation in staging. Attachments and notes move to object storage with the original record IDs preserved as a permanent audit key.

Are external customer portals free in a custom CRM?

Yes. Because you own the database and the source code, an ERPStack portal can serve thousands of customers, vendors or partners with zero per-seat fees. That is the single biggest structural divergence from Salesforce, where every external community licence is billed, and from Odoo Enterprise, where portal access is metered per user. Infrastructure still costs money — a Next.js deployment plus PostgreSQL — but it scales with traffic, not with headcount.

Where does Salesforce still beat a custom CRM build?

In ecosystem depth and staffing. Salesforce ships mature forecasting, territory management and a very large AppExchange, and you can hire an experienced administrator in any market. ERPStack has to design each of those behaviours deliberately, which is an advantage only when your process is genuinely non-standard. If your sales motion is textbook and your seat count is under about 10, buying Salesforce is the rational call and this comparison should not talk you out of it.

How do API rate limits differ between Odoo, Salesforce and a custom build?

Salesforce enforces daily org-level API call quotas, so a high-volume storefront or a chatty integration can exhaust the allowance and trigger overage charges. Odoo Enterprise adds its own per-app dependency chain before an integration is even reachable. An ERPStack custom core has no vendor quota at all: the only limits are the ones your own infrastructure imposes, and you can raise them by scaling PostgreSQL and the Next.js runtime rather than by buying a bigger tier.
