Teams leave Oracle NetSuite for one of two reasons: the renewal moves faster than headcount, or a workflow the business depends on cannot be expressed inside Oracle NetSuite without a specialist. The alternative is a custom ERP you own — Next.js, React and TypeScript in front, PostgreSQL and Drizzle ORM behind — with no per-seat NetSuite licence at all. A NetSuite replacement typically runs 8-12 weeks across four phases, read-only access for auditors costs nothing, and at handover the TypeScript source, the PostgreSQL schema and the user directory belong to your company outright.
Oracle NetSuite arrives with multi-subsidiary consolidation, revenue recognition and a maintained library of country tax localisations already working. A custom ERP on PostgreSQL has to build or integrate each of those, and that work is real. That is less painful than it sounds, because Oracle has already scheduled the end of SOAP web services in NetSuite: no new SOAP integrations from the 2027.1 release, and every endpoint disabled at 2028.2. Most Oracle NetSuite customers face an integration rewrite inside that window regardless. Doing it once, against a PostgreSQL schema and a REST API you own, avoids paying for the same work twice.

Nobody outside Oracle can tell you, and any page quoting a renewal percentage cannot source it either. An Oracle NetSuite renewal you cannot model is a budget you do not have.

Oracle NetSuite already does those things and a custom ERP would have to earn them. Switching makes sense past roughly $25,000 a year in NetSuite licensing, when seat count is growing faster than revenue, or when the system blocks a process your competitors run freely.

Oracle's own SOAP Removal Plans FAQ states that from the 2027.1 release it will no longer be possible to build new integrations using SOAP web services, and that with the 2028.2 release all endpoints are disabled and SOAP-based integrations stop working. The 2025.2 endpoint is the last planned SOAP endpoint, so every Oracle NetSuite integration you run is on that clock.
Oracle names SuiteTalk REST as the technology intended to replace SOAP and states plainly that you "should not expect 100% parity of REST with SOAP". Where an object or method is missing, the documented fallback is a RESTlet you write and maintain yourself. A custom ERP exposes the same records through your own REST and GraphQL API.
From the 2027.2 release only the newest endpoint is supported, and each subsequent release disables the oldest one. Any middleware, warehouse feed or eCommerce connector still speaking SOAP moves on a timetable Oracle sets. On a PostgreSQL schema you own, that NetSuite integration work happens once.
Oracle states that from the 2026.1 release all newly built Oracle NetSuite integrations should use REST web services with OAuth 2.0, and that with the 2027.1 release you can no longer build new integrations using Token Based Authentication — the authentication SOAP web services require. The end of SOAP therefore lands as an authentication change first and an endpoint shutdown second, which is why teams meet it late.
